Before her second pregnancy began, Mary decided it was time to change careers. Seeing the results of violence and accidents every day as an EMT saddened her, and she wanted to devote her time to preventing such injuries, rather than treating them. Listening to Aaron’s tales of the police force every night at dinner convinced her that this was the path for her. Before you could say "jelly doughnut", Mary was a member of Greenhaven’s finest.

At just about the same time, Aaron decided the police force didn’t hold enough challenge for him, and joined the military instead. He rose as quickly through the army’s ranks as he did as a policeman, but his real love was being at home with his growing family.

 

Speaking of growing - the Petras family never seemed to stop! One night at dinner Aaron had jokingly said "Let’s have 10 kids!", but now that seemed to have a good chance of actually happening.

 

Aaron and Mary embarked on a seemingly never-ending round of pregnancies, births, and child-rearing. Brighid was soon followed by Brandon, and then Benjamin. The three were so much alike that they might have been cloned, and their parents had trouble even telling which one was the girl until Brighid grew her hair long!

 

By the time the twins reached their teens, there were a half-dozen Petras children. The arrival of baby Brad evened things up at 3 girls and 3 boys altogether.

 

Despite her frequent pregnancy leaves, Mary still managed to do quite well in her new career. Actually, she found the time-off to be ideal for building skills and friendships, when she wasn’t passing her knowledge on to the next generation.

 

But with so many children and responsibilities, it’s hard for the parents to keep track of everything. It wouldn’t be too long before tragedy struck the Petras household.
