Brighid arrived at Greenhaven University with only $5,250 in scholarships to start her out. She was an outgoing, playful young woman, but far lazier than her older sister Beverly. She wasn’t much for working hard at anything, unless it was attracting boys.

She was assigned to Hamilton Dorm, and had no problems adjusting to living with lots of other people – she’d done it all her life, after all. But she was thrilled to have a room all to herself, with a door she could lock too!

Brighid chose to major in Art, and would actually attend classes now and again, if they weren’t too early in the morning. As for homework and term papers, though, she found it much easier to use her sunny personality to influence others to do her work for her.

On one of the rare occasions when she attended class, she found an even easier way to get a good grade. She managed to catch Prof. Timothy Enriquez’s eye, and he was soon one of the many guys Brighid was leading around on a string.

Between her own friendships and influence on campus, and the fact that she was Beverly’s younger sister, it wasn’t long before she was being hauled away to the secret society for her induction.

While she was there, Brighid decided to use the society’s resources to raise her grade even higher. She figured that even if she tripped an alarm while trying to hack her grades, it would be difficult to trace it to the secret society, and impossible to pinpoint her as the culprit.

Boy, was she in for a surprise! She didn’t realize that most of Greenhaven’s police officers were members of the group as well. An officer quickly intercepted the call and hurried down before the society’s existence could be exposed. Luckily for Brighid, there would be no record of the incident, so neither her mother nor the dean of the school would find out, but she was given a stern lecture and fined for endangering the secrecy of the group. Despite the loss of money, she was relieved at the outcome, and vowed to stick to more mundane methods of “grade enhancement” in the future.

With Brighid halfway through her freshman year and Bev already a sophomore, oldest son Brandon decided it was time to head out to college as well. Leaving his girlfriend Nicole Thompson behind (she was a year younger), he moved into Washington, Beverly’s old dorm, with $7,750 in scholarships and grants.

Brandon couldn’t decide on a major. He dreamed of being a celebrity chef, and felt the best path would be to hone his own creative and culinary skills, so he stuck to general education courses.

Most of his time was spent amusing himself and his dorm-mates. Whether freestyling in the common room to entertain the girls, or heading downtown on a date with someone, Brandon was far more interested in pleasurable activities than in his studies.

He’d barely settled into his dorm when he became the latest Petras to join the secret society. He was surprised to learn that its members included both of sisters! He thought at least one of them might have warned him.

He also learned why you should never take cake from strange plants, and how to profit from folks who are careless enough to do it.

All in all, Brandon decided it was a good thing the society came equipped with a lie detector. He’d need the practice to keep the group a secret from the rest of the family. Not to mention in case someone started asking what had happened to Simon…
